We’ve got nothing against traditional camping. Getting back to basics with a sleeping bag, a tent, and not much else can be a legitimate thrill.

But sometimes when we’re recharging in nature, we want a few more creature comforts. This is especially true in colder months.

Which brings us to Postcard Cabins St. Francois, a handsome assortment of cabins in the woods about an hour’s drive south of St. Louis in Bloomsdale, Missouri.

Formerly known as Getaway St. Francois, these 40 pet-friendly cabins are now part of the Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy.

While they’re not very big — we’ve seen dorm rooms with more space — they’re packed with lots of handy amenities. Things like a bathroom with shower, kitchenette with cookware, queen bed or bunks with fresh linens, wireless internet, and heat and AC.

Some cabins are even accessible, and an additional fee gets you coffee, snacks, and s’mores.

Outside, there’s a fire pit and firewood for grilling, plus a picnic table and chairs for relaxing.

In terms of recreation, you’ll find plenty to do. The area boasts an on-site hiking trail along a stream, and it’s within a half-hour drive of three state parks (Hawn, St. Joe, and St. Francois).

We could see this place working for solo getaways, couples’ retreats, and family trips.

At about $140 per night, it won’t kill your wallet, either.

And if you find that you love the tiny-cabin lifestyle, good news: Marriott Bonvoy has similar diminutive abodes in dozens of other locations across the U.S., including Missouri’s Ozarks and Illinois’ LaSalle County.
