Plattin Peaks Trails will celebrate a major milestone with an official ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 1, during the Trailfire Gathering, a family-friendly event hosted by Living Life on 2 Wheels at 2601 Plattin Road in Festus.

The event will give visitors a chance to explore the property, ride or walk the trails, discover native glades, take side-by-side tours, and learn about plans for a future bike park. Although Plattin Peaks Trails is not yet open to the public on a regular basis, Chris and Rene Creed, who lead the project, plan to offer free access for biking, hiking, walking and exploring once it opens.

“This is the day we’ve been working toward,” said Chris and Rene Creed of Living Life on 2 Wheels. “We can’t wait to open the gate and show our community what Plattin Peaks is becoming and what it can be. Getting kids off the couch, off their devices, and outdoors with friends and family is a mission we feel God has given us.”

A Day of Outdoor Activities
The Trailfire Gathering will feature activities for all ages and interests, including trail riding, hiking, walking, and opportunities to learn about the property’s native glades. Visitors can also check out a mobile pump track, take part in kids’ activities, and explore a 3-D archery display and kids’ archery zone hosted by Wild Arrow Outdoors.

Missouri Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever will offer glade education, while bonfires, hot chocolate, and live music to add to the day’s festivities. Jason Cole will perform beginning at 1 p.m.

Tavolo Vigneto Imports will host a wine tasting from 1 to 3 p.m., and organizers will jar old-fashioned apple butter at 4 p.m. Both activities are available with a $10 donation. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, including wood-fired pizza from Pedal’n Pi, coffee from Buzzin Coffee, savory s’mores boxes, and weenie roast boxes.

Wheels Up MTB, a St. Louis-area coaching program, will also be on site, with details of its activities to be announced.

Supporting the Park’s Future
Community support will help fund the continued development of Plattin Peaks Trails. Businesses and families can sponsor a park bench or picnic table and have a plaque placed on the property. Visitors can learn more about sponsorship opportunities at a display during the gathering.

Organizers also welcome community groups interested in conservation programming, a community garden, beekeeping, or other uses of the land. Contact Chris Creed at creed@livinglifeon2wheels.com for more information.
