As we enter a fall season marked by cozy traditions and community care, local bike education nonprofit St. Louis BWorks has announced its 19th annual Cranksgiving celebration, a bike-powered food drive that often attracts hundreds of cyclists coming together in support of neighbors facing food insecurity.
This year’s Cranksgiving ride is set to kick off promptly at 10 a.m. Sunday, November 8, with 2nd Shift Brewing (1601 Sublette Ave #2) serving as the start and end point for the cycling event.
“This is the third year that 2nd Shift has graciously hosted Cranksgiving, and they’ve proved to be a tremendous partner in this effort,” says Patrick Van Der Tuin, BWorks’ executive director. “We’re thrilled to have their support and to be able to invite the community there once again for a morning all about gratitude, giving and pedaling it forward.”
Registration is required, with $15 of each $20 registration fee benefiting Operation Food Search and its Operation Backpack program for schoolchildren.
The other $5 will help BWorks purchase healthy, fresh snacks for its growing numbers of Earn-A-Bike and Learn-To-Ride students (nearly 500 kids have already graduated from one of BWorks’ free, in-depth bike education programs in 2026 alone).
BWorks will release both a short- and long-route option to registrants the week of the event, and the shorter route will include the option to join a slower-pace youth-friendly group ride. Both routes will also include an optional grocery store stop, where riders are encouraged to purchase $5 to $10 of nonperishable food items to carry the rest of the way on their bikes.
Check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. the morning of November 8 in the 2nd Shift Brewing lot, with each registrant receiving one complimentary post-ride drink ticket (choice of beer or NA product) courtesy of the 2nd Shift team. Riding of the routes begins promptly at 10 a.m., with cyclists encouraged to stick around and patronize 2nd Shift after the ride ends.
