Big Shark Events and the staff of the Gateway Cup Professional Bicycle Races have made the decision to cancel the 2020 edition of the races.

This decision was postponed as long as possible, organizers said in a press release today. With transmission data trending the wrong way in the St. Louis metro, race organizers say they feel that inviting cycling fans and athletes from around the country to St. Louis is not in the best interests of the neighborhoods, cycling fans, athletes of all abilities, charity partners, sponsors, and staff.

“We are all looking forward to a brighter future where we can enjoy coming together as a community to enjoy something as simple as a bike race,” the press release said.

“We invite all fans and racers to channel their cycling energy into one of the many virtual, charity rides that are occurring this fall across the US.  Do not stop training, we all share the same roads. Locally, we are gearing up for www.pedalthecause.org this fall.”

The Gateway Cup Race Series will return September 3 through 6, 2021.
