Field Theory, a retail shop in the historic Old Orchard neighborhood of Webster Groves, Missouri, opened in October and carries men’s outdoor apparel as well as gear from some of the world’s premium outdoor brands. The products cater to a variety of outdoor lifestyles and activities, from camping and hiking to mountain sports and travel.
The intention behind Field Theory, says owner Ian VanDam, is to provide a home to high-quality, lesser-known, well-designed brands that have not historically been sold in St. Louis or, in some cases, in the Midwest at all.
“When I’ve discussed some of the brands we’re planning to work with, I’ve had a ton of positive feedback and excitement. I want to show it’s possible to shop locally for these amazing brands, and I think it will resonate with a wide range of people,” said VanDam. “I want customers to think of us when they’re writing their checklist for their next big outdoor trip, whether it be for skiing, backpacking, climbing, or just for a weekend car-camping getaway.”
Gearhead Outfitters, a nationwide brand with 20 stores across the country, has announced plans to open a shop inside the Plaza Frontenac in St. Louis. This will be the third Missouri location for the Arkansas-based chain.
Gearhead offers a wide variety of global brands and products that are built for style and adventure, including Patagonia, The North Face, Birkenstock, and Vuori.
“We’re excited to continue expanding the Gearhead brand in the Midwest,” company owner Ted Herget said. “The unique thing about Gearhead is that we bring a hometown feel into all of our retail locations. Our employees work hard to get to know our customers, so they can help outfit them with the best possible products for their lifestyle, whether they’re an avid runner or just looking to go on a leisurely hike.”
