For the comparatively low price, you might expect this headlamp to come up short in a crucial area. But no, the Bilby 400 is bright, fully adjustable, long lasting, water and dirt proof, compact, and lightweight (90 grams).

A single toggle lets you adjust the size of the one-piece silicon headband. The form-fitting material can withstand extreme conditions and won’t slip while you’re running or bounding around. It’s also odorless and doesn’t tangle your hair.

Five different LED settings — spot, mid, wide angle, reading, and red nightlight — each have four brightnesses. There’s also a boost mode that activates full power from two of the LEDs simultaneously; this really lights things up, but only for 10 minutes.

Rather than use a clumsy cord, the light pod pops out of the silicon “chassis” and plugs into any standard USB to recharge. That’s handy. At a max output of 400 lumens, run time is five hours, or you can get a solid nine hours at 240 lumens.

I opted for the Fluro Orange color to make it easier to find at night, but the headlamp also comes in Putty Grey, Violet Blue, and Black. The Bilby is backed by a two-year warranty. $60. knog.com
