St. Louis’ largest competitive cycling event rolled into four historic neighborhoods over Labor Day Weekend, drawing thousands of professional and amateur athletes, spectators, families, and riders of all abilities. Along with spirited criterium-style racing in which competitors completed laps on a closed circuit of about 1 mile — think Formula 1 Grand Prix, only on bicycles — the event included kids’ races, an accessible ride, and a stationary bike spin supporting charity. A curated selection of local food and drinks fueled the festivities and took on the flavor of each host neighborhood. Gateway Cup was the eighth and final stop of the American Criterium Cup, the top criterium cycling series in the U.S.
