The inaugural Battle for the Brave mud run/obstacle course event will take place August 23 at Kearse’s Quarry, home of The Fugitive Run, just six miles south of Rolla in Phelps County, Mo.
Participants will battle their way through this nationally recognized course of 100 muddy obstacles in the “gold” course, or 50 obstacles in the “silver” course. (Half the obstacles, all the mud!) Either way, entrants will be supporting more than 2,600 Special Olympics athletes in the Central Area. The goal is to have 500 participants for this first-year event.
The run will be hosted by the Rolla Police Department and is open to anyone 13 years of age or older; all participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is now open at www.somo.org/battle. The registration fee is $65 for the gold course and $55 for the silver course.
Teams of five or more will receive a $5 discount per person. Simply email Crystal Schuster at cschuster@somo.org before you register to get the discount code.
In order to be guaranteed a T-shirt, participants must be registered by August 14. Registration prices will increase by $20 on August 17. Online registration will close at noon on August 22.
Check in will begin at 8 a.m. the day of the event, with the course opening at 10 a.m. A prize will be awarded to the top fundraiser. Parking is $10 per car, and spectators are encouraged to attend and enjoy a day at the beautiful beach and swim in the quarry while cheering on the Battle participants.
