The first thing you’ll notice when putting on this boldly colored hoodie is its weight. The fabric is thick and heavy — 465-gram French Terry that really stands up to the cold. I wore it in temperatures as low as the mid-30s and didn’t feel the need for a shell or jacket. The double-layer hood protects your noggin and neck when the wind picks up.

But before you think this is just a super-cozy sweatshirt, be sure to investigate the exterior. At the back right hip, you’ll find a double-stitched pocket with nylon lining. What’s it for? California Cowboy proudly labels it a beer bottle pocket, and I can confirm that it serves this purpose well. A second, zippered pocket opposite is designed as dry storage for your matches, munchies, and tech. Two hand-warmer pockets don the front, with the left-side one containing a credit card-sized slot pocket for smaller, personal items. Last but not least, there are fabric loops on the back (for hanging the hoodie in a locker or on a coat rack) and front (for hooking your sunglasses onto), as well as a secret pen pocket sewn into the front zipper for discreetly stashing your, um, pen.

Overall, I’d say this is a rugged, stylish addition to any camping/road trip wardrobe. The sizing is spot-on, so if you’re an in-betweener or are worried about shrinkage, buy the next size up. The Men’s PCH Full Zip Hoodie is available in sizes extra small to extra extra large in White Sand and Farallon Navy (shown). $150. shop.californiacowboy.com
