180ish Minutes of Darkness
September 14, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
New for 2019, this race will take place mostly after dark in Castlewood State Park. Racing will begin from the main pavilion at 7:00PM for all categories. There will be a 90 minutes division with male/female categories as well as a 180 minutes division with male/female and a duo relay category. If there are 5 or more teams of women or coed they will get their own category. All final laps must start before their division’s time has expired and be completed by 30 minutes after the division’s time expires to be counted. The relay categories will alternate laps EVERY lap and tag to start the next lap. Preregistration will be $30, onsite $35. The race will be chip timed, if you have a lifetime chip from 2TG you can bring it and use it. Awards for Overall, podium photos for categories.
The course will start at the main pavilion and proceed around the park in a clockwise direction. You will proceed around the main field, under the train trestle and left onto River Scene. After this you will pass the boat ramp, continue on River Scene until the field and turn left towards the end of the field. At the end of the field you will hang a 180 degree turn and enter the single track that runs parallel with the railroad tracks towards the trestle. Proceed under the trestle again and head towards Lone Wolf. Hang a left, climb Lone Wolf and proceed to the right at the top descending to the creek. You will not cross the creek, instead you will head back towards the bridge like we do in the crits, make a hard left and proceed to the Ranger Station. Cross the road, climb Mountain Ridge Connector (Love Trail), hand a right on Grotpeter, left onto Roller Coaster, left onto Grotpeter and descend to the field. Cross the creek on the culvert bridge and sprint it out to the main pavilion for the finish line.
This is a pretty race friendly course and it will be a mass start. All racers will be required to have a light source on their bike or helmet as well as a backup light of some kind (flashlight, cell phone, etc.). Tail lights are preferred but are not to be blinking. Helmets are a MUST. If you do not have a light setup, Ballwin Cycles can set you up with a sweet light setup from either Outbound Lighting or NiteRider to meet your needs/budget starting at less than $100.
Post-race beverages to be provided by Ballwin Cycles. Officiating by The Man, Larry Pirtle.
