SUMMARY:Earth Day Cleanup at Lake Springfield
DESCRIPTION:The James River Basin Partnership will be hosting their annual Earth Day cleanup on Saturday\, April 22\, 2023\, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lake Springfield.  Partners for this event include Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation\, Bass Pro Shops\, and the Missouri Department of Conservation. \nThis is a FREE event open to anyone who would like to get out and make a difference in their community. We will have shoreline\, lake\, and river cleanup opportunities available. Pre-registration is required and will officially open March 1. \nExperienced floaters have the option to float a 4.75-mile section of the James River from Creighton Access to the Southwood Access. Shuttling from Southwood to Creighton Access will be provided. This stretch is limited to 30 boats. \nPaddlers will also launch from the Lake Springfield Boathouse to paddle to remote shorelines along the lake. \nBring your own boat or call and reserve one of ours for FREE. A limited number of canoes are available on a first come first serve basis\, so don’t delay. All on-the-water participants will be required to wear life jackets. \nIf paddling isn’t your thing\, grab a trash bag and walk the shorelines of Lake Springfield and the James River. Bring your camping gear\, change of clothes in a waterproof container\, and your food and beverages (Non-Alcoholic Beverages while on the river). The Jack’s Fork is a prime Smallmouth Bass steam for those anglers among us. \nThis is a small stream requiring precise boat handling. There may be downed trees\, sweepers\, and stainers to avoid. DESCRIPTION:Rocks ‘n’ Roots 10K is an old-school barebones trail race held in beautiful Cuivre River State Park on April 24\, 2023. This event is a challenging run along the Lone Spring Trail through the Northwoods Wild Area of the park. The Trail race will start and finish in Camp Derricotte. The 10K start will be staggered with waves of 30 runners every 5 minutes starting at 8:30 am in order to allow social distancing and prevent congestion on the trails. Runners will choose their start time during registration. The race is capped at 150 runners.

Originally held on the historic Eads Bridge we re-located the event to a longer bridge and a more rural bicycle course. The iconic Chain of Rocks Bridge and surrounding area are the perfect venue to ease into an active event season. The event starts and finishes at the foot of the Chain of Rocks Bridge on the Illinois side. Participants will run from Start Line to the Mississippi River and back\, followed by a flat\, fast out-and-back bike circuit\, returning to a final out-and-back run leg to the river and back with great views of the mighty Mississippi River.
