SUMMARY:Southern Illinois Fat Tire Fest
DESCRIPTION:Southern Illinois Fat Tire Festival (FTF) is celebrating 22 years of one of the best MTB events in the entire MidWest! This year’s event goes down October 16-18\, 2026\, in Ozark\, Illinois right in the middle of the beautiful Shawnee National Forest. Camp Ondessonk will serve as our hosts with awesome treehouses\, great camping and amazing food! There are miles and miles of great riding for all levels from mellow flow to rugged all mountain boulder strewn rowdiness. Join us for one of the Midwest’s best all-inclusive mountain bike weekends with tons of fun riding; both professionally guided and self-led\, amazing food and drink\, and tons of outdoor adventures all weekend long! \nFTF has something for everyone\, from those wanting to ride every minute of the day to those tagging along to enjoy some time in the great outdoors.  The list of fun evolves each year and is part of what makes Fat Tire Fest such a fun event for EVERYONE.  This year the list includes 30+ miles of onsite trails to explore at any time\, including the 10+ miles of fun and flowy trails handcrafted specifically for MTB riding that weave thru the 800+ acres of CampO property. \nAt Fat Tire Fest there’s always a ton of riding and a bunch of “other fun” too. \n\nThe Fat Tire Challenge will be back on Friday night with the “huffy toss”\, the “big kids on little bikes” races\, the now famous “log pull”\, the CampO tug of war and other FTF Challenge tomfoolery.\nSaturday afternoon includes the first “big race” of the weekend with the “Kids Race” at the expo area\, featuring kid sized jumps\, and three different distances so that even the youngest can get in on this one!\nThe Off-Road Crit race happens on a super fun and rowdy course\, with just under 30 minutes of racing.  This one has the best prizing of the entire event….bragging rights for the whole weekend.\n“The Hunt” scavenger challenge goes on all weekend long. This one is HARD with riddles and clues all over the forest.  A great way to explore the outdoors and have fun beyond the rides.\nA Tunnel Hill Rail Trail ride happens Saturday mid-morning\, light gravel\, tons of trestles\, an awesome tunnel and an out and back course so you can make it as short or long as you like.\nGuided family MTB rides happen both Friday and Saturday\, getting the littles out in the dirt.\nOn-site bike demo’s from Santa Cruz and Cannondale all day Friday and Saturday and a number of other brands on site with cool gear to check out.\nFat Tire wouldn’t be Fat Tire without great food\, cold drinks (sponsored by New Belgium and Excel)\, treehouse accommodations and tons of amazing prizes\, last year was well over $10\,000.\nWe cap the weekend off right with the O-Face Challenge\, an all-in race on Sunday\, with options for all to compete and have fun\, whether you are a rider or not!\n\nJoin us for the 22nd Fat Tire Fest and have more fun\, more adventure and embrace the outdoors while enjoying your best weekend of the year. SUMMARY:Off Road Rage Adventure Race
DESCRIPTION:ARE YOU READY FOR A NEW CHALLENGE???? \nThere will be navigation\, trekking (running or hiking)\, mountain biking. The EXTREME and SHORT Courses will require flatwater\, or slow moving river paddling. (canoes\, pfds\, paddles provided!!) There may\, OR MAY NOT\, be surprise challenges for ALL courses. The team that completes all the checkpoints (or more than other teams) with the fastest time will win the race. \nThere will be several checkpoints that are mandatory (transition areas)\, but most are not. \nA team could choose to skip checkpoints and shorten the course and still have an official finish\, though probably not place in the top 10. You will have access to the gear\, food and drink that you have on your bike or in your pack. The maps are pre-plotted topographic maps from mytopo.com. Your team will need a basic understanding of terrain features and distance measure. There will be very few rules of travel\, teams will choose their own route/strategy (with mode of travel specified for checkpoints).

Our events are local\, welcoming\, and easy to jump into\, whether you are chasing a PR\, collecting another themed medal\, working toward series points\, or just getting outside with good people. \nMost races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course\, helpful race staff\, finisher medals\, results\, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes\, your steady walking pace\, your favorite running buddy\, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. \nA quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races\, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site\, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish. Please plan for the weather\, bring anything you may want between laps\, and check in with race staff if you need help.

SUMMARY:The Skippo Trail Race
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Skippo returns to Castlewood State Park on October 31st & November 1st\, 2026. The Skippo began in 2009 as a 20k trail race in beautiful Castlewood State Park that featured two 10k loops on a fairly flat course except\, of course\, for the famous stairs! The race is named after local trail running legend Skip “Skippo” MacDowell who has dedicated countless volunteer hours maintaining the trails at Castlewood State Park. It was at Skip’s urging\, wanting to involve as many runners as possible both beginner and seasoned\, that we added two more options\, the 10k and the 30k and make a weekend of the event with events both Saturday and Sunday. The Skippo offers something for everyone!
